Get Up And Try Again
Sometimes we have the best ideas, which we know will be fantastic for our careers and lives. Then the roadblocks are massive. What do you do?
Last night, the 1st of Jan 2025, I had a grand idea to record a 14 minute video and post it on YouTube and do one of these a day. Just me talking into the camera. Those of you who follow my YouTube channel know that I've had several of these moments/series on my channel over the last couple of years, and they never last.
This time I thought I'll make it last. 1 video a day.
I thought I'd make it casual and easy, so I record with just my iPhone, no external device or microphone to record audio (for clean audio, YouTubers and film crews around the world never use the audio from the camera, almost never).
As a rude shock, after the video was done, and I had finished the video edit, and I was importing it into my audio editing program to work on the audio since it was rough audio from the iPhone camera (which is pretty good and clear but still), I realised this annoying thing which I have noticed over the years but I had since forgotten.
There's this static-ish sound... "SSShhhhhhhh"... "SSShhhhhhhh"... "SSShhhhhhhh"... "SSShhhhhhhh"... just coming out of the sound file every 4 seconds. Yup. Can't use that, and since I didn't record external audio, there goes the whole video. Lots of people have mentioned this all over the internet and Apple has done nothing about it yet. Select all, Delete, Empty Recycle Bin. 12am to 2am, wasted. Although I could have slept early I chose to do this instead, spoil my health, and ended up wasting my time.

Also though, learning. I knew that filming inside the room either close to the computer and all my gear, always brings up this sound in the audio, but I had forgotten. The videos I shoot outdoors, don't seem to have this problem. Or those at the dining table, which is away from most devices.
I still haven't nailed down what it is, but I'm going to attempt it again, after a few proper days sleep. I'm also recovering from Burnout so it might not be a good idea to keep going late night. However, I AM going to try again. With a better and more conducive setup. Last night though, I was ready to throw in the towel and say, "This is probably too much work for me." What happens next, we shall see, but in the meantime, I do have the intention of trying again. I feel it's very important to have that attitude in life.
