Meet People Where They're At
In the end, real communication only happens when two people connect. To connect, you need to understand where the other is coming from.
It is all too easy to want to force your view down the other person's throat, even if you KNOW it's the truth, for example in the case of a 37-year old (me), explaining something to my daughter regarding which I definitely know more about than she does. For instance, how protein intake affects physique.
However, until I speak at her level in a way that she understands me, and she speaks in a way that I understand... there is 0 communication going on between the two of us.
Similarly, if two intelligent adults with intelligence and/or knowledge in two different fields try to debate a point in a third field, an argument can ensue very quickly if they are not careful.
Try to adopt the mature approach, where you can.
